Scafell Hotel, a country inn situated in the Lake District, is being marketed at a lower price of offers in excess of £2m.The former 18th Century coaching inn was originally built as a private residence for the artist Mary Barker. The property sits in around five acres of grounds and includes a “characterful” 60-cover restaurant, lounges, and the self-contained Riverside Bar with seating for 50. There is also ample parking on site.
Scafell Hotel is close to the Lakeland fells including Great Gable, Dale Head, High Spy, Scafell Pike and Great End, and is also in close proximity to the banks of the River Derwent.
There is also scope for the establishment of four “glamping” pods within the paddock, and the property also includes a self-contained one-bedroom owner or manager’s flat on the first floor, with a lounge, dining room, and ensuite bathroom, as well as three staff bedrooms with a shared communal bathroom.
Acquired by the current owners in 1971, they are looking to sell the property in order to retire.
The site is reportedly appealing to operators looking at its existing use, though it may attract interest from buyers looking to convert it to self-catering accommodation.
Julian Troup, head of UK Hotels Agency at Colliers, who is handling the sale, said: “Scafell Hotel is a very well-known Lakeland venue ideally located in the midst of the lakes, and in the beautiful village of Rosthwaite.
“While the business needs some modernisation it could easily reposition with solid trade, or it could also be adapted and used as a self-catering accommodation which is another viable business model for the area. The property is sizeable which offers scope to be adapted for longer term letting purposes as well.”
