Isle of Wight’s Northbank Hotel brought to market for £4.2m

The hotel currently operates seasonally between May and October, though agents suggest there is potential to extend trading hours or reposition the business

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

The Northbank Hotel in the village of Seaview, Isle of Wight, has been brought to market for an asking price of £4.2m.

The Victorian coastal hotel located on Circular Road occupies an elevated position overlooking the Solent. It was originally built as a private residence in the 19th Century, and was subsequently used by the Women’s Royal Naval Service during the Second World War and then converted into a hotel following the conflict.

The Shaw-Yates family has owned the business since 1959. The three-storey building contains 16 guest bedrooms, a private lounge, a bar, and gardens with direct access to the beach.

Seaview is noted for its sailing heritage. The hotel currently operates seasonally between May and October, though agents suggest there is potential to extend trading hours or reposition the business.

Nick Earee, divisional director of Fleurets, who is handling the sale, said: “I have known the Northbank Hotel for over 50 years, and it is a truly unique, family-owned property in a superb Solent-facing position.

“This is a rare opportunity to acquire a characterful coastal hotel in a prime location with real historic significance, and we are delighted to be bringing it to market.”

Owner William Shaw-Yates added: “The Northbank Hotel has been at the heart of our family for generations, and it is a place filled with memories as well as history. Seaview and the wider Isle of Wight offer a unique blend of tranquillity, natural beauty and coastal activity, and the hotel has always provided a wonderful base from which guests can experience it all. It’s a very special place, and we hope the next owners will cherish it as much as we have.”
