The Hideaway at Windermere, a mid-19th Century Victorian country house, has been brought to the market with an asking price of £1.5m.
The detached hotel, constructed of traditional Cumbrian stone, is located on a main route into the national park, which attracts approximately 18 million visitors annually.
The property includes 11 en suite guest bedrooms, a lounge, bar, and dining room. It also features a self-contained three-bedroom owner’s residence, surrounding gardens, and a private car park with 15 spaces.
The hotel has been under the same family ownership for 35 years.
Richard and Lisa Gornall, who have owned the business since 1991, are selling the property due to retirement.
The hotel currently operates as a boutique guest house but has recently secured planning consent to be used as a single-unit holiday let, offering an alternative business model for potential buyers.
The sale is being managed by specialist business property adviser Christie and Co. Graham Wilkinson, senior business agent at the firm, noted that opportunities of this scale in Windermere are rare and offer options for further growth.
The Gornalls said: “We are so proud of everything our family has achieved at The Hideaway since 1991. As the second generation, we have continued to cherish this beautiful house, carefully curating and adapting to meet the needs of modern travellers.
“Many guests have been staying with us since the beginning, and we are so grateful for their support. Now in our 22nd season, our passion continues, but it’s time to hand over the baton, and explore the next phase.”
