Michels & Taylor releases its reopening plan to the industry

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Michels and Taylor (M&T), the European hotel management and advisory businesses, is to share its newly developed ‘Hotel Re-Opening Plan’ with the industry free of charge.

The plan, a management tool put together for its 23-strong managed estate, is designed to prepare hotels for the relaxation of Covid 19 restrictions within the hotel sector and will be offered to any hotel management team who would wish to receive it.

The plan outlines the operational and commercial checklist of issues a hotel needs to consider for re- opening the business, covering everything from the new “check-in to check-out” customer journey subject to government guidance and social distancing, to the commercial and sales strategy that hotels will need to consider when opening.

The company said it decided that given the situation across the industry and the unique nature of the challenges all hotel owners are currently facing, it would share its plans across the sector rather than just keep them for internal use in the hope that this will “help and support” other hotel management teams in preparing for the immediate and longer term future.

Hugh Taylor, chief executive of M&T, said: “This is an unprecedented situation for our sector and through our own experience we are finding that developing the best re-opening strategy for our hotels is by no means a straightforward process, either operationally or commercially.

“As a company that has advised and supported hotel owners for over a decade, we believe the right thing to do for our colleagues across the sector at this difficult time is to make this bespoke management tool available to all hotel owners across the country free of charge in the hope that hotels will find it useful as an additional support to their businesses.”
