A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman told the Daily Record: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 12.30pm on Monday, July 27 to a fire at The Moorfield Hotel in Brae village in Shetland.

“Currently six fire appliances and an Independent Support Vehicle are on the scene. There are no injuries to report.”

One of the owners of the hotel, Stuart McCaffer of BDL (Shetland) Ltd, told Shetland News: “We are shocked that this has happened to the Moorfield. Thankfully all of our guests and staff escaped safely from the building.

“There will be a full investigation to identify the cause but it would appear that the fire safety systems have worked to early identify the outbreak of fire and evacuate the hotel. We are grateful to the fire fighters for their response.”

The hotel first opened seven years ago, and was a popular accommodation for nearby oil and gas workers. The site was reportedly set to close early next month.
