A 19th Century hotel has been brought to market, with the freehold building being offered with vacant possession at an asking price of over £1.25m.
The Alamo is a 10-bedroom detached property that overlooks Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow. It has been run as a luxury boutique hotel for the last 15 years, but could be repurposed for residential use with the correct planning consents.
The Alamo occupies the ground and lower ground floors of a double-fronted late Victorian sandstone building, and has a gross internal area of 4,772 sq ft, characterised by “painstakingly restored and enhanced” original features alongside contemporary decor.
The ten bedrooms and ten bathrooms, including seven en-suites, are all individually designed, and feature “sensitively placed” lighting, oyster shell basins and freestanding copper bathtubs.
The site is surrounded by a private, moated garden which wraps around the front west and south facing aspects.
Steven Fyfe said: “This boutique guest house has a well-earned reputation as one of Glasgow’s most stylish and romantic places to stay, with a loyal following and many repeat bookings. A new owner could certainly capitalise on the glowing reviews and continue to grow the business.”
Savills head of residential in Scotland, Cameron Ewer, expects there to be a “strong residential demand” due to the site’s location.
He said: “Well balanced over two floors, with the most elaborate decoration combined with wooden floors and period fireplaces The Alamo could be easily adapted to recreate a superb private home, its original purpose, subject to appropriate consents.
“Given its coveted prime West End location, with a range of high quality shops, good schools, and abundant green space nearby, it represents a rare and precious find for a residential buyer.”
