Five new apprenticeship standards for hospitality approved

Five new apprenticeship standards for hospitality approved

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Five new hospitality apprenticeships standards have been approved by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).

Coinciding with National Apprenticeship Week, the standards that have been approved include hospitality team member, hospitality supervisor, hospitality manager, commis chef and chef de partie.

The standards have been developed by the ‘hospitality trailblazer’, which is led by Hilton Worldwide and manage by People 1st.

Skills Minister Nick Boles MP said: “Apprenticeships are a real success story. Through giving leading employers such as Hilton Worldwide the power to design and deliver high quality apprenticeships we can give young people the skills our economy vitally needs.

“I congratulate Hilton Worldwide and members of the hospitality trailblazer on their involvement in designing the new apprenticeships.”

Kathryn Porter, Hilton Worldwide and chair of the hospitality trailblazer said: “The hospitality trailblazer is absolutely thrilled that all five of the standards that were submitted to BIS in February have been approved, but even more so as it’s been a long challenge defining the very important customer facing, generic skills that all hospitality team members, supervisors and managers need in a way that meets the government criteria for apprenticeships.”

Annette Allmark, director of strategy policy at People 1st, said hospitality is an “exciting” industry to grow a career in but  “sadly” some still have the perception that it is low skilled. She added that the Hospitality Trailblazer encourages businesses that don’t employ apprentices to get involved.
