Oddfellows Hotels has announced that it has appointed Paul Cookson as general manager of the luxury Chester-based hotel.
He will be tasked with managing the company’s boutique hotel in Chester, while also assisting with the development of group’s second site in Cheadle, Manchester, which was given the go-ahead earlier this year.
Cookson, who has more than 20 years experience in the industry holding positions with Forte, Moat House Hotels and the Royal Garden hotel, Kensington, will then take on the role of general manager at the new 22-bedroom property which is expected to open in spring 2016.
Set in over 100 acres of parkland, Oddfellows on the Park, which will become the sister property of the group’s existing hotel in Chester, will feature a restaurant, cocktail bar, private dining rooms and a spa.
Cookson said: “This is a new direction for me and a very welcome one. I will be leaving the five-star sector to join one of the new breeds of hotels; those that aren’t defined by stars or corporations.
“Oddfellows is a truly independent hotel group, both in spirit and ownership, and celebrates personality and individuality. I’m working with a fantastic, enthusiastic and talented team and I can’t wait for the adventure to begin.”
He replaces Sarah Dougherty who has held the position at Oddfellows since 2012.
