Hospitality businesses in London have been urged by the Metropolitan Police to remain vigilant following the tragic terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday.
Scotland Yard advised the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR), the trade association for pubs, bars and restaurants, that all businesses should “review their continuity plans and ensure their staff are trained to respond to incidents”.
The warning follows the Paris attacks on Friday (November 13) in which at least 129 people died. The incident included attacks on restaurants and bars in which around 38 people are believed to have died.
The Metropolitan Police said hospitality firms cannot ignore the fact they operate in crowded places which present themselves as “soft targets”. They warned businesses to be aware and report suspicious behaviour and to ensure that security staff are compliant around entry checks and left luggage.
Bernard Hogan Howe, the Metropolitan Police commissioner, said: “London and Paris are linked as two of the world’s capital cities and we stand prepared to help in any way.
“My thoughts and those of the Met officers and staff are with Paris and [the] men and women whose job it is to deal with this horrific situation.”
The threat level from international terrorism in the UK remains at severe, meaning an attack is “highly likely”.
