Institute of Hospitality’s WTM seminars left standing room only

The recent Institute of Hospitality (IoH) World Travel Market hotel seminars were in high demand – with sessions often being left with standing room only as audience participation was high.

For the third year running the IoH organised and hosted the series of hotel seminars at the leading event for the tourism industry and a prestigious line-up of experts discussed design, marketing, customer service, risk and investment topics with the eager crowds of hoteliers.

Many topics were covered including credit card fraud; the rise of mobile devices and their effect on the hospitality sector and creating customer loyalty.

Liam Lambert FIH, chief operations officer at Corinthia Hotels, questioned whether the customer should have a voice in hotel design, while the Institute’s president, Sir David Michels FIH,l advised owners to make the most of their properties by using public spaces to maximise revenue opportunities.

The success of the seminars comes only days after the winners of the fourth London Aspiring Managers Awards were announced at a dinner reception at the Langham Hotel, London.

Winners of the award for up-and-coming hoteliers received one year’s complimentary membership of the IoH, a luxury weekend hotel break, an Aspiring Manager trophy and, through the event’s partner, People 1st Training Company, the chance to undertake the new four-day management development training programme, Management 1st.

News also emerged on the night of Eamonn Cole FIH stepping down as chairman of the London Branch of the Institute after four years and he was presented with a special award from his London branch colleagues by the Institute of Hospitality’s new chief executive, Peter Ducker.
