Apex reveals plans for £12m hotel refurbishment programme

Apex Hotels has revealed it is investing £12m in refurbishment works across its four-star portfolio – with work on some properties already under way.

The announcement comes following the opening of the group’s tenth property in the UK – the £48.5m Apex City of Bath Hotel and the completion of a £1.5m refurbishment at Apex City of London Hotel, including a new restaurant and spa, and upgraded public areas.

Apex’s planned programme of refurbishment will mean improvements to three of it Edinburgh hotels; Grassmarket, Haymarket and Waterloo Place, as well as Apex City Quay Hotel &; Spa in Dundee.

Apex City of London Hotel will also benefit from further investment, with the redecoration of its existing bedrooms, while Apex Temple Court Hotel, will continue its £6m refurbishment which includes a 20-bedroom extension.

Work is already under way at Apex Grassmarket Hotel, with conference and events facilities being upgraded.

Apex City Quay Hotel and Spa in Dundee is undergoing a full bedroom refurbishment. The public areas, along with gym and spa, will all be transformed as a result of the investment.

“We demonstrated our commitment to providing the best possible facilities for our guests by investing £48.5 million in the brand new Apex City of Bath Hotel, which opened just months ago.

“Carrying out an additional £12 million of refurbishment work on our existing properties over the next year goes even further in terms of improving facilities for our guests – and ensuring they receive the warmer welcome that Apex Hotels is known for.

“As well as bedroom refurbishments for Apex City of London Hotel, Apex Temple Court Hotel, Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa in Dundee and Apex Haymarket, we’re also focusing on improvements to conference and events facilities at Grassmarket and Waterloo Place in Edinburgh as well as Dundee.”

Last month Apex Hotels reported a year of growth for 2016-17, with a 6% rise in turnover – up to £65m from £61.3m the previous year.
