Hotel staff assaulted at St Andrews hotel

Guest had been drinking at the bar prior to the incident

A staff member has been assaulted by a drunk guest at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews, according to local reports.

Niven Semple checked into the hotel on 2 January 2018, and had been drinking at the bar prior to the incident.

A report by local paper The Courier said the man repeatedly punched William Milne, the night manager on duty at the time, in the face. However, Semple claimed he had no recollection of the events that took place.

Public prosecutor Trina Sinclair said: “During Tuesday evening, the witnesses were working in the bar. The accused was causing issues and was told he would not be served any more alcohol. He agreed to settle the bill but continued to cause issues. After that the bar staff asked [him] to leave and he was told he could return to his hotel room or leave the building.

“Mr Milne, the night manager, then asked for the police to be contacted. The accused started to prod Mr Milne on the chest then punched him in the face.”

He was fined £1,300 by the Dundee Sheriff Court and £500 will be paid to the staff member who was attacked.
