The Beacons in Brecon in Wales will soon be renamed after it was sold to new owners, with refurbishments to the rooms also planned.
Hospitality newcomers Francesca and Neal Gardner have bought the 14-bedroom Grade II listed Georgian townhouse, along with its two barns. The B&B was sold off an asking price of £495,000 by Colliers International.
The property is currently named after the mountain range that dominates the Welsh border town of Brecon and the National Park, and the new owners plan to rename it after the largest mountain in the range – the Pen-Y-Fan.
Francesca Neal, commenting on the acquisition, said: “The first thing we are going to do is re-name the Beacons as Pen-Y-Fan Guest House. You can see the Brecons from the street outside so we are hoping this will help steer the business in a whole new direction.”
Originally from Chelmsford in Essex, Francesca and locally-born and raised husband Neal are planning a phased refurbishment on a room by room basis, throughout which the business will remain open.
“I’m really excited about it – we are hoping to give the place a little TLC, beginning with repainting the whole building inside and out,” she said.
“Further down the line we are hoping to convert the two barns into more rooms or holiday cottages – but this is very much a long-term project.”
Peter Brunt, a director with Colliers International’s Hotels team, said: “The Beacons occupies a prominent position in Bridge Street. Unusually, the property boasts a Georgian façade on a farmhouse dating back to the 17th century.
“Brecon is a magnet for walkers, cyclists and families visiting Christ College school, as well as an excellent base to explore the surrounding Brecon Beacons, I have stayed there myself when heading into the hills.”
