Graduate Hotels prepares European debut

A duo of hotels in Oxford and Cambridge are set to open in Spring 2021

Graduate Hotels, A US-based collection of college-city hotels, has announced its European debut with openings in Oxford and Cambridge.

A 148-key hotel will be situated at the site previously known as the Doubletree by Hilton Cambridge City Centre, while information regarding the Oxford site remains sparse.

Following its student-based ethos in the US, the decision to target the “most historic and prestigious” University communities in the world has been described by the firm as “incredibly exciting and humbling”.

David Rochefort, president at Graduate Hotels, said: “Over the past year, we’ve worked closely with the team on the ground and with local partners in Cambridge to immerse ourselves within this unique city.

“It’s incredibly important to us that our hotel respects and nods to the Cambridge heritage and becomes a destination for both tourists and locals alike.”

With the Graduate Cambridge set to be operational in Spring 2021, the company hopes to help revive the hospitality industry in Cambridge, capitalising on the expected surge in “British staycationers” as well as traditional travellers.

Chris Douglas, general manager at the Cambridge establishment, said: “The hotel will be reborn in 2021 with new offerings for the people of Cambridge, British staycationers and business/leisure travellers from around the globe as well as offering employment opportunities for local people.

“Cambridge of course has a wealth of world-famous attractions, unique charm and history, and we look forward to sharing this and brand new hotel facilities with our guests.”
