Elme Hall Hotel in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, has been placed on the market for a guide price of £1.9m. 

The Georgian-inspired property, houses 42 bedrooms and is set across three acres at the junction of the A1101 and the A47 linking Kings Lynn to Peterborough

Elme Hall Hotel was constructed in the mid to late 1980s, and in 2003 a galleried ballroom was added. 

Other features include, a bar, a restaurant with seating for 34 diners, four ensuite staff bedrooms and a two bedroom owner’s/manager’s apartment, including a large attic-style room.

There is also a detached two-storey annexe with 34 contemporary bedrooms, which was developed in 2012.

The hotel has been placed on the market as its current owners are looking to retire.

Paul Barrasford, director in the hotels agency team at Colliers, who is leading the sale said that he is “expecting interest from buyers looking to operate the hotel business”, including functions and weddings, or others “considering redeveloping the property for alternative uses, such as for a care, residential or senior living scheme”. 

He said: “Looking ahead to when normal trading conditions return, there is significant scope to grow these particular elements of the business. The hotel remains open and is taking bookings, although until lockdown restrictions are lifted these will be for guests such as key workers and essential business travellers only. 

“In addition, the setting of this property in three acres of land at a strategic junction on the outskirts of the historic market town of Wisbech, known as the ‘capital of the Fens’, means that it also offers opportunities for other uses.”
