North Norfolk coaching inn sold for £1.6m

The Ship Hotel in the coastal village of Brancaster, Norfolk, has been sold off an asking price of £1.6m.

The freehold property and business has been sold to the Chaplin Group that also owns the Gonville Hotel in Cambridge and the Maids Head Hotel, Norwich.

The property had been operated by Flying Kiwi Inns since 2009, which is headed by master chef Chris Coubrough who also owns and operates the Crown Hotel in the nearby town of Wells-next-the-Sea.

David Chaplin, company director of the Chaplin Group, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to acquire The Ship Hotel. The [property] is already a very successful operation and it will fit well with our Cambridge and Norwich hotels where we appeal to discerning travellers seeking excellent service and elegant surroundings. ”

Simon Jackaman, who brokered the sale on behalf of property specialists Fleurets, added: “Businesses of this quality rarely come to the market, so when this did, we were able to directly approach a number of operators whom we knew would be the right type of operator and despite some early competitive bidding, Chaplin Group were the perfect match for this outstanding property.”
