The RedCat Pub Company has revealed its recent acquisitions of the Mooreland Hotel, Jamaica Inn, and the Swan Hotel in the South West has brought the number of pub hotels in its portfolio to 32 venues.

The group’s recent acquisitions aimed to add popular holiday destinations of Devon, Cornwall and Somerset to the portfolio as staycations are said to “retain momentum”.

The Coaching Inn Group, which was acquired by RedCat last August, operates historic coaching inns in market towns across the country in areas including the Cotswolds, Peak District, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, and Cambridgeshire.

The Mooreland Hotel is based in Dartmoor and sits at the base of Haytor. The property was reportedly renovated in 2017 and has panoramic views across the moorland and tor tops. The sale was brokered by Savills, acting on behalf of the owners.

The Jamaica Inn is a hotel pub in Cornwall, made famous by Daphne du Maurier’s best-selling novel ‘Jamaica Inn’ following her enforced stay in November 1930. The inn has 36 bedrooms and suites including carefully preserved ‘old rooms’ alongside a Smuggling Museum. The sale was brokered by Knight Frank, acting on behalf of the owners.

The Swan Hotel is a four-star boutique hotel with a view of the Wells Cathedral. The hotel has recently benefited from investment to restore and extend the 50 bedrooms, suites and apartments in keeping with its original charm. Contracts have been exchanged on the property, pending completion. The sale was brokered by SSA Hotels, acting on behalf of the owners.

It is reported that RedCat has grown strongly since its inception in February 2021, having acquired over 100 pubs and pub hotels, now amounting to a hotel room estate of over 1,200. The company’s approach is said to be highly flexible, allowing it to acquire single pub assets, all the way through to larger-scale businesses and pub companies.

Kevin Charity, chief executive of The Coaching Inn Group, said: “I am pleased to have increased our presence in the South West with this trio of acquisitions, including potentially the most famous Inn in Britain with The Jamaica Inn.

“All three inns are incredibly high-quality additions to The Coaching Inn Group and we are continuing to work alongside RedCat to expand our portfolio in popular holiday locations in the UK focusing on areas of natural beauty. We look forward to preserving the history of each inn, which has served as an attraction for tourists and guests.”

Rooney Anand, executive chairman of the RedCat Pub Company, added: “RedCat and the Coaching Inn Group are delighted to be increasing its footprint through these exceptional pub hotels.

“Together, we have nearly doubled the portfolio since RedCat acquired the business last year and its contracts exchanged, pending completion continues to go from strength-to-strength. We are confident that our strategy to invest in high-quality pub hotels, offering the best possible service and good value is the right one for customers.”
