The five-star Nici in Bournemouth has revealed planning for the next phase of its refurbishment has now been approved.

The hotel has already completed the first phase of refurbishment, with a £20m investment so far, the hotel features 73 bedrooms, including sea view suites, a bar and restaurant, indoor cinema and state-of-the-art meetings and events facilities.

The approved application allows The Nici to move on to the next stage of development; undergoing several enhancements and extending its existing building to deliver a five-star, year-round destination resort in Bournemouth.

It allows the hotel to replace an existing extension, allowing additional space to host new luxury spa and fitness facilities, additional hotel bedrooms, a rooftop restaurant, and a garden café.

The additional facilities will supplement a new 30 metre feature swimming pool, located in the hotel garden, which received separate planning permission in July 2022.

Public realm improvements will take place, including the restoration and landscaping of the hotel garden, and upgrades to the street scene. The hotel’s car park will also be resurfaced.

Eldon James, managing director at Nici Hotels Limited, said: “We are delighted that our proposals have been approved and are looking forward to bringing our five-star vision to Life.

“Our aim is to create a unique, luxury development which drives further tourism success for Bournemouth and brings multiple benefits to our local community. We believe THE NICI has the potential to be a catalyst for wider regeneration in Bournemouth, encouraging further investment to help the town grow as a top tourist destination in the UK.”

Works are planned to start in October 2022, with the majority of works complete by summer 2023.
