Middletons hotel in York is set to get a makeover costing in excess of £1m after the City of York approved the refurbishment plans.
The hotel is part of the Daniel Thwaites portfolio and will undergo a 120-week refurbishment starting January 2023.
It will include a full refurbishment of all 18 bedrooms and bathrooms in the grade II listed building with a view to modernising them. This includes upgrading the bathrooms, changing the décor, installing aircon and smart TVs and adding double glazing.
Ahead of the refurbishment, Middletons is set to donate around 185 pieces of furniture to
St Leonard’s Hospice to raise money for the charity.
The hotel was first acquired by Daniel Thwaites in 2017 and the company has been planning this refurbishment for five years.
Adam Wardale, general manager at Middletons, said: “The hotel is well known by
many within the city, and after a tough few years for the hospitality industry, it’s great to be
able to get back on track with the refurbishment.
“Revamping a historic building like Lady Anne, requires the right balance of high-end luxury and having compassion for the building’s character and past. To be able to invest money back into the building, whilst also supporting a local charity, feels incredibly special and we cannot wait to share the finished project with everyone.”
