The Black Bull in Sedbergh has announced plans to build two new luxury suites, with work set to begin in March.
The Black Bull development will see an existing stone cottage located in the 17th Century Inn’s stable yard be restored and transformed.
The Cottage, a £250,000 project, will see the creation of a ground floor garden suite, sleeping up to four people, with a separate seating area, sunken bath in the contemporary ensuite, as well as providing new external spaces and a ‘wildflower garden’.
Externally the suite will lead onto a new external wrap-around terrace complete with seating area for those wishing to take in the views of Winder and the Howgill Fells.
The Cottage Suites design conceived by Patrick Thomas will follow on from the existing Japanese influences seen in the Black Bull itself.
The designs will take their inspiration from aspects of ‘Ryokan’, traditional Japanese inns.
The work is expected to be completed by May 2023.
Owners James Ratcliffe and Nina Matsunaga said: ”The Cottage represents a significant investment in the Black Bull and marks the next phase of our ambitious plans to realise the potential of the site as we gradually bring our vision to life.
“We have ambitious plans for the site going forward, which we can hopefully begin to fully realise as we continue to bring our interpretation of traditional Japanese and Dales hospitality to our corner of the Western Dales.”
