The Gaskell Arms Hotel and Restaurant in Much Wenlock at the foot of the Shropshire Hills has been brought to market for an undisclosed amount, following the current owners’ plans to retire after 45 years operating the business.
The property is a Grade II-listed hotel that dates back to the 17th-Century when it was a coaching Inn. It is in close proximity to attractions such as The Guildhall, The Corn Exchange, Much Wenlock Priory and Much Wenlock Church.
It is also in a central position for visiting Ironbridge Gorge with all its museums, Ludlow, Shrewsbury and Church Stretton.
The venue has retained many period features throughout its 14 en-suite lettings rooms and restaurant, lounge and bar.
Sam Roberts, hotel broker in Christie and Co’s West Midlands team, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire an historic coaching inn at the foot of the much visited Shropshire Hills.
“Over the past 45 years, the current owners have created a versatile business with multiple income streams and have now decided to sell in order to retire, which presents an excellent platform for an incoming owner to take the business forward.”
Maxine and Ross Sheldon, the current owners of the property, added: “The Gaskell Arms is a wonderful place with a rich history and so much to offer a new owner. The hotel has been our family’s lifetime work, but it’s now time for a change of ownership and we look forward to finding the next custodians to take the business forward.”
