Holiday Inn London Sutton launches open lobby concept

In this episode we speak to Nico Tréguer, co-founder of Roberts and Treguer and The Culpeper Family. Nico spoke about founding the group alongside his longtime friend Gareth, having had a vision for bringing more nature spaces to cities, the planned extension of The Buxton in Spitalfields, and how the site’s storytelling engages guests and the local community, how the Culpeper Family’s core sustainability ethos helped it secure its B-Corp status and why hospitality has a responsibility to educate and innovate when it comes to sustainability.

The Holiday Inn London Sutton has unveiled a £750,000 refurbishment to transform its public spaces and showcase a new open lobby concept on the ground floor.

The lobby, designed to provide “one multifaceted public space to eat, meet, relax, socialise and work as they choose”, has seen the traditionally separate zones of a reception, lobby, bar, lounge, restaurant and business centre merged into one cohesive space.

The hotel said the multi-functioning zones will “encourage guests to better utilise all areas and facilities in a way which works around their lifestyles and preferences”.

The space will also improve interaction between staff and guests as the front of house reception teams can “be more adaptable and accommodating” while guests use the space, as well as the multi-skilled team serving the lobby who can meet a wider range of needs.

Key features of the open lobby include free high-speed Wi-Fi, a versatile dining space with a range of seating from booths to high and low tables, a living-room style Media Lounge with seating, games, magazines and TV and an E-Bar with power points, a wireless printer and more.

In addition to the refurbishment, the Holiday Inn London Sutton has also undergone a massive conversion that involved changing old function rooms into 23 brand new premium bedrooms. There is also a newly created meeting room on the ground floor.

Callum Duncan, general manager for the Holiday Inn London Sutton said: “I’m thrilled to welcome guests to our brand-new open lobby space. There are so many options and areas to plug in or switch off, that our business and travel guests will love what we’ve done, and we’ve already seen a pick-up in daytime trade.

“The new open lobby will also appeal to local Sutton residents and networking groups as a desirable space to meet up. Customer satisfaction is a top priority for me and my team, and this refurbishment allows us to deliver our best ever service with no barriers between us and our guests.”

The Holiday Inn London Sutton is located in the heart of the town centre and near to Sutton station, where there are fast trains to London Victoria. On-site parking is available at the hotel, and Gatwick (LGW) and Heathrow (LHR) airports are both under a 45-minute drive away.

The hotel features a health club with an indoor pool, gym and sauna, a bar and an all-day restaurant. Business travellers are close to several corporate HQs, and a business centre with printing facilities is available.

The open lobby concept is unique to the Holiday Inn brand and has been extended to properties across Europe to become a brand-defining feature.
