Travelodge opens new site in Peckham

In this episode we speak to Nico Tréguer, co-founder of Roberts and Treguer and The Culpeper Family. Nico spoke about founding the group alongside his longtime friend Gareth, having had a vision for bringing more nature spaces to cities, the planned extension of The Buxton in Spitalfields, and how the site’s storytelling engages guests and the local community, how the Culpeper Family’s core sustainability ethos helped it secure its B-Corp status and why hospitality has a responsibility to educate and innovate when it comes to sustainability.

Travelodge has opened the first branded hotel in Peckham, London, marking the group’s 597th hotel and its 80th hotel in the Capital.

This hotel is one of three Travelodge hotels the group plans to open in London this year, with two further sites planned at Oval Cricket Ground and Beckenham.

It comes as the budget hotel chain said that London was a “key growth area” for the group, and it is currently searching for a further 127 sites across the city.

This would more than double Travelodge’s presence in London and could represent an investment of nearly £3bn for third party investors and create over 6,000 new jobs.

London Peckham Travelodge is situated on Peckham High Street, and its opening has created around 20 new jobs within the community. The 52-room hotel was officially opened by the Mayor of Peckham.

The site offers a range of rooms including family, double and accessible rooms, all of which feature the bespoke king-size Travelodge Dreamer bed. In addition, all family rooms will include two individual beds for children.

The rooms also feature a modern en-suite bathroom, power shower, comfort cooling to enable you to personalise the temperature of your room, a 32 inch Freeview TV, complimentary in-room tea and coffee making facilities and access to Wifi.

London Peckham Travelodge is managed by Fellipe Rodrigues, who joined Travelodge in 2019. Rodrigues started his career working at London Kings Cross Royal Scot Travelodge in the Bar Cafe, where he progressed to the role of F&B supervisor. He was then promoted to assistant hotel manager at the newly opened London Lewisham Travelodge. This is his first hotel manager position.

Shakila Ahmed, a spokeswoman for Travelodge, said: “We are delighted to open the first branded hotel in London Peckham, which has fast become one of London’s trendiest neighbourhoods. This opening is our 597th Travelodge hotel and our 80th property in London.

“As we look ahead, London remains a key growth area and we are currently searching for a further 127 sites across the capital to open a Travelodge hotel. This expansion programme would more than double Travelodge’s presence in London and could represent an investment of nearly £3bn for third party investors and create over 6,000 new jobs.”
