Senior executives at 94% of high end or luxury hotels expect the sector to increase its focus on sustainability over the next three years, according to data from Communications Specialist Ltd.

Furthermore, more than one in five (22%) executives believe that there will be a dramatic increase.

Of those surveyed, 46% expect there will be a dramatic increase in the sector’s focus on working with local suppliers, and a further 44% say there will be a slight increase.

Alongside this 84% are predicted growth in the luxury hotel sector’s use of renewable energy, and 86% an increased focus in the sector on removing disposable plastics from their operations.

Despite this 28% of executives interviewed said having strong sustainability credentials
was now extremely important to secure bookings, but 68% said it is quite important.

Kevin Buchler, chief marketing officer at Communications Specialist Ltd, said: “The high-end luxury hotel market has very discerning customers and many of them increasingly want to know the ESG credentials of the hotels they are staying in. Our research shows the luxury hotel sector is investing heavily in this area, and it has become key to a hotel’s success to have a strong focus on sustainability.”

Communications Specialist commissioned research agency Pure Profile to interview 50 senior executives at luxury, high end hotel chains with an annual revenue of $4bn (£3.16bn).
