The Mole Resort in North Devon has received special commendation for Multi-measure Project of the Year and achieved third place in the Project Management Company of the Year category, at the National Energy Efficiency Awards ceremony held at Hilton Birmingham Metropole.
The National Energy Efficiency Awards champions the best practice across the UK energy efficiency industry.
Comprising 58 lodges and a fully-refurbished hotel set in the heart of the Devon countryside, The Mole Resort is an eco-conscious lodge and hotel.
As part of its ongoing commitment to the environment and target to be a Net Zero resort, owner L+R Hotels designed a Energy Positive Lodge for its newest development.
The lodge is so-called because it produces more energy than it consumes – generating its energy through an array of solar PV panels. The lodge is also designed with a fabric-first approach.
John Allen, development director, L+R Hotels, said: “To be recognised on this national scale in our first year of opening is a great feat. Being eco-conscious is at the heart of everything we do, and I believe the lodges we’ve created are leading the change in terms of green buildings in the leisure sector.
“Our team spoke at the early stages about the design, and being committed to reducing the environmental impact of the construction, to provide cleaner, more sustainable developments for future generations. We are trying to set a precedent within the industry and offer guests the opportunity to contribute in tackling the climate crisis.”
He added: “It leads the charge on showing what is possible and the associated paybacks of all these latest innovations. The more these technologies are embraced, the more we can drive down the cost and scale of these technologies.”
