Premier Inn sales rise 11% in Q3

Whitbread has reported that UK Premier Inn accommodation sales rose by 11% in the third quarter of FY24, compared with the 13 weeks ended 30 November 2023. 

The group attributed its strong sales during the quarter to demand in both London and its other regions.

Meanwhile, total RevPAR rose 9% compared with November and by a further 39% compared with FY20, which was also attributed to high occupancy and “strong” pricing. 

In addition, Premier Inn’s food and beverage offering continued to perform well, as sales rose 6% during the third quarter.

Dominic Paul, chief executive of Whitbread, said: “Our teams have delivered another strong set of results. In the UK, we continued to see robust demand for our hotels driving high levels of occupancy and strong pricing. Our focus on delivering a high quality proposition at a great price meant that Premier Inn UK has continued to outperform the M&E market.

“We continue to execute against our strategic priorities at pace and given the structural shift in UK hotel supply, positive current trading, a clear commercial plan and our ongoing focus on driving cost efficiencies, we remain confident in the outlook.”

According to Whitbread, strong trading has continued into the fourth quarter, with accommodation sales 12% ahead of the last financial year. RevPAR also rose 10% compared with FY23 and remains 39% ahead of FY20. 

During the fourth quarter, F&B sales also increased by 7% compared with last year, following a “robust” trading performance over the festive period. 

The group also remains confident in the FY25 outlook, as it maintains a positive forward booked position in the UK, a “favourable” supply environment, a clear commercial plan and cost efficiencies.
