The Shap Wells Hotel has come to the market for the first time in 20 years for an asking price of £2.95m.
The 108-bedroom hotel with restaurant and lounge bar is located in the village of Shap in a wooded valley within the Shap Fells amongst mountain streams and between the Lake District National Park and Yorkshire Dales.
Originally built in 1833, the hotel includes two conference suites with capacity up to 180-covers and sits within 15 acres of land. Staff accommodation is also located close to the main building.
The current owners purchased the property in 2004 and it has been run by a general manager and quality staff team for the last two decades. It has a three-star Cumbria Tourist Board classification, and welcomes high volume leisure visitors every year, as well as business trade.
Julian Troup, head of hotels agency at Colliers, which is marketing the hotel, said: “The Shap Wells Hotel is an impressive hotel which overlooks the Birkbeck River and has an established history of providing quality accommodation for tourists looking to explore the nearby Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Scottish borders.
“It is also a popular venue for family celebrations, with the large banqueting suites playing host to parties and wedding celebrations complemented by the picturesque views of the surrounding English countryside.”
Being 12 miles from Haweswater, the hotel is close to key access roads including the M6 and A6 which makes quaint towns like Keswick easily accessible to guests.
Troup added: “The hospitality sector in Cumbria has been in high demand, particularly in the wake of the pandemic staycation boom. The Shap Wells Hotel has been competitively priced and we’re anticipating significant interest in the opportunity.”
