The Hell Bay Hotel on the island of Bryher, in the Isles of Scilly, has reopened for Spring following a redesign.

The refreshed design fuses the “rugged essence of the island” 30 miles off the coast of Cornwall with world-renowned artwork.

Rooms have been redecorated with coral pinks and coastal greens while paintings inspired by the intimate setting hang above mirrored fireplaces and vintage furniture

The redesign is the work of interior designer Tania Streeter, who is also behind an extensive transformation of spaces on the neighbouring island of Tresco.

Streeter also redesigned the hotel’s restaurant, adding more natural light and simple mid-century furniture.

The 25-suite hotel also includes an outdoor pool, a spa and yoga studio and secluded beaches just footsteps from the hotel.

Streeter said: “Bryher is a truly amazing destination, not just because it is an island but because there is so much contrast. I wanted to bring this to life in my design; eccentric and colourful juxtaposed against a calming serenity.

“I chose vibrant fabrics by Jane Churchill, Nina Campbell and Andrew Martin, and sourced antique furnishings to place alongside contemporary pieces. Every space in the hotel encapsulates a different facet of the island and draws upon the hotel’s strong personality.”

Francesca McNeill, general manager, added: “We’re thrilled to unveil a new look for the hotel. We welcome guests from around the world, from those who love the outdoors, to art aficionados for an authentic island experience and our new look takes that to the next level.

“Art is truly at the heart of the hotel, so much so, it can almost be likened to a gallery. We are incredibly proud to be displaying work by Rose Hilton, Barbara Hepworth, Ivon Hitchens, Rodger Hilton, Matthew Smith and Patrick Heron to name just a few. Hell Bay is an art-hotel set within nature’s finest masterpiece and this redesign frames it as such.”
