De Vere Horsley Estate, located in East Horsley, Surrey, has unveiled the first phase of a £1.2m refurbishment to 51 of its bedrooms located in Horsley Place, a contemporary hotel which sits alongside the historic mansion house, Horsley Towers in over 75 acres of grounds.

The work has already seen 10 new academy double rooms and five new academy superior double rooms be completely refurbished, along with the creation of five new Horsley Place suites, with the remaining rooms due to be complete by June 2024.

The newly designed rooms offer a contemporary design, with nods to the estate’s “illustrious” past. The bedrooms are complete with walk-in showers, classic Roberts radios, Penhaligon’s toiletries and smart TVs, whilst in the suites include roll-top baths and robes and slippers, with some also featuring private terraces.

In the grounds of De Vere Horsley Estate is a 19th Century mansion house, Horsley Towers, which was designed by Sir Charles Barry, who also designed the Houses of Parliament and Highclere Castle.

After being the marital home of Ada Lovelace, the property was bought by Sir Thomas Sopwith, the inventor of the Sopwith Camel aeroplane. Horsley Towers features 28 bedrooms, two large event spaces, three meeting rooms and acres of “beautiful” grounds which can be hired out exclusively for events.

Horsley Place is also home to The Hub, which comprises nine meeting spaces for six to 100 people, which can be booked individually, in groups – or all together to offer exclusive use.

Delegates can take advantage of The Hub’s courtyard which can be used as an open-air breakout space or a place to work from and can also be booked exclusively for outdoor lunches, barbecues, and team-building events.

The Hub can also be used in conjunction with The Horsley Suite, a 200-capacity space, which also offers direct access to the courtyard.

Michael Micallef, general manager at De Vere Horsley Estate, said: “We’re thrilled with the results of the refurbishment to the bedrooms so far and we’re excited to be rolling out the next phase of works ahead of summer. I’m very much looking forward to welcoming guests to the hotel to enjoy the new upgraded rooms and amenities.”
