The Pig-and The Village Pub to reopen following refurb

The Village Pub is nestled in the Cotswold village of Barnsley, and features six bedrooms with low ceilings, huge oak beams and multiple fireplaces

The Pig-and The Village Pub, formerly Barnsley House Hotel and The Boot, will open this summer after a restoration masterminded by Judy and Robin Hutson, founders of the Pig hotels.

The Village Pub reopens on 14 June in time for a summer filled with local ales, cold glasses of wine and pub classics.

The Village Pub is nestled in the Cotswold village of Barnsley, and features six bedrooms with low ceilings, huge oak beams and multiple fireplaces.

The pub menu features Jugged Beef and Carrot, Smoked Haddock Fish Cake, Bangers and Mash with onion gravy or Godsell’s Double Gloucester and White Bloomer Ploughman’s. All rounded off with a classic Gooseberry Crumble or Chocolate Mousse.

Additionally, pub snacks include Jesse Smith’s Pork Pie, Gentleman’s Relish on toast and Pork Scratchings. The group has also curated a “serious” wine list, a familiar nod to English wine, plus pints of local gravity-fed ale from both Stroud and Arkells alongside others on tap like Severn Cider.

Judy Hutson designer and curator of the look, said: “We are all very excited about The Village Pub. We have never had a pub before and of course everyone has their own idea of how a perfect pub should feel. In our case, this 18th Century building is a very good starting point.

“Just being in the space automatically strikes a Dickensian Tavern cord and the strong moody colour palette I have chosen only emphasises this. Of course, there will be lots of eclectic collectibles to feast your eyes on and, while not in my area, I know the delicious menu and traditional ales will complement.”
