Travelodge has announced that it is continuing to expand in Scotland and is looking for 10 new hotel sites across the country as part of a £75m investment drive.
The chain will be hiring for the position of hotel manager, assistant hotel manager, housekeeper, receptionists and guest room cleaners, with a total of 200 jobs expected to be created.
The budget hotel chain currently has 40 hotels and has expanded beyond its traditional roadside locations into key city centre and tourist locations.
Peter Gowers, the chain’s chief executive, said: “There is a big opportunity to further expand [sic] in Scotland. At present, the value hotel market in Scotland stands at 14%, compared to 18% in England and more than 30% in the US.
“By 2030, the budget hotel sector could account for almost a quarter of the UK market, with a similar level of growth expected in Scotland.”
In addition to this announcement, Travelodge has also invested £4m in the last 12 months into modernising over half of its Scottish hotels.
This modernisation is part of a wider £57m refurbishment investment throughout the UK. By Autumn this year, over 80% of Travelodge rooms will feature new modern rooms.
