PPHE Hotel Group has been granted planning permission for a mixed-use, hotel-led development in London’s South Bank area, following the conclusion of a recent public inquiry.
The development site, which is located on Westminster Bridge Road opposite Lambeth North Station, was acquired by PPHE for £12m in 2019 and benefits from easy access to London’s landmarks, cultural spots and nearby transport links.
This new hotel will be PPHE’s fifth location in the Waterloo area, which has proven popular with tourists and corporates alike.
Under the approved plans, PPHE will bring a 15-storey design-led mid-scale concept to the market comprising up to 186 rooms, as well as two floors of office and light industrial floorspace.
The ground floor will be a flexible use public space, featuring an all-day dining bar and cafe.
According to PPHE, the building’s design will focus heavily on sustainability, as the project will be transforming a former brownfield site.
The group is also aiming for a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ environmental accreditation.
Boris Ivesha, president and CEO of PPHE Hotel Group, said: “We are delighted to have been granted approval to execute our plans to create a mixed-use development at 79-87 Westminster Bridge Road. The development will combine lifestyle hotel rooms with welcoming office, leisure and creative spaces for the benefit of the entire community.
“This is a hugely exciting project for the group, located close to some of London’s most exciting landmarks. We look forward to beginning work on the project and updating stakeholders in due course.”
