Nico spoke about founding the group alongside his longtime friend Gareth, having had a vision for bringing more nature spaces to cities, the planned extension of The Buxton in Spitalfields, and how the site’s storytelling engages guests and the local community, how the Culpeper Family’s core sustainability ethos helped it secure its B-Corp status and why hospitality has a responsibility to educate and innovate when it comes to sustainability.

The Belfry Hotel and Resort has won six awards from several institutions that recognised excellence in departments across the resort. Its recent awards include Marketing Team of The Year at the Midlands Marketing Awards, which recognises the marketing team’s “ability to push boundaries and craft imaginative campaigns that drive business growth and deliver results”.

The Belfry’s People team has also won the Excellence in Promoting Careers Award at the HR in Hospitality Awards. This recognised its Art of Hospitality training programme, which “ensures employees with limited experience but desirable traits have the skills, confidence and support they need to prosper”, as well as numerous apprenticeship programmes and work experience placements.

Meanwhile, securing first place in the UK Kitchen Porter of the Year competition was Leszek Dajnowiczhas, the resort’s kitchen porter manager. The competition pays tribute to those who “go above and beyond to support their teams and ensure the smooth operation of professional kitchens”.

At the Birmingham Hospitality Association Awards, The Belfry received three accolades in one night. Wins included Laura Manuel, the resort’s sales support manager, who was named Unsung Hero for her “diligence, innovation and care in empowering her team to deliver bespoke events that consistently outshine the competition”.

The Belfry’s ESG Champions team was meanwhile named Sustainability Hero. Composed of 20 voluntary members from across the resort who are passionate about advancing ESG actions resort-wide, the team was central to The Belfry securing a Silver Green Tourism Award and becoming GEO certified.

Finally, Methus Sawangseang (Max), the resort’s chef de partie, won the Best Newcomer Award.

Chris Eigelaar, resort director at The Belfry Hotel and Resort, said: “It is immensely rewarding to see so many of our talented team recognised at these industry-leading awards.

“Our staff are the heart and soul of the resort, and the sheer volume of award wins we’ve achieved, across so many departments, is testament to their diligence, care and expertise, as well as their determination to provide every guest with an experience like no other. I’m incredibly proud to lead such an ingenuitive, focussed and hardworking team of consummate professionals.”

Located in the heart of the country in Royal Sutton Coldfield, The Belfry is home to more than 300 bedrooms and suites, several restaurants and bars including The Ryder Grill, as well as 23 meetings and events spaces, a leisure club, spa, three golf courses, and a driving range.
