A new boutique hotel, the St James Hotel, in Nottingham’s historic castle quarter, will be officially opened on July 23.

Formerly the Rutland Square hotel, the property – purchased a year ago – has been completely refurbished.

The public areas of the hotel have been transformed into grand spaces, with chandeliers and restored pink marble floors. The hotel’s lounge and bar includes a library wall with over 400 books.

The hotel is unique in Nottingham for its art collection which is focused on work from local artists. The hotel has its own gallery, which will have regular events showcasing the best breakthrough talent.

The hotel has been designed to become a ‘value boutique’ which offers a contemporary environment at room rates which appeal to all sections of the market.

The hotel has 87 guest rooms and a penthouse, which comprises a 650 square foot room featuring burr walnut floors, antique furniture, a television and a four person hot tub.

Harjeet Johal, the interior designer for St James’ hotel, said: “The brief was to create a truly unique hotel which would stand apart from the local competitors as a property of character, style, service and value. I am confident that this has been achieved.

“I wanted to reintroduce the wonder of travelling and make the hotel a place of both delight and sanctuary. I am very proud that most of the sourcing has been from within a thirty mile radius of the hotel. It is a real showcase of local craftsmanship and produce.”

The hotel also has several refurbished event spaces. The largest of which can cater for two hundred guests with views over Nottingham Castle.
