The Park Hotel in Sefton has applied for planning permission for a five-story extension which will expand the hotel’s offering by 40 rooms.
Alongside this, the hotel also plans to open seven padel tennis courts, including one tailored to meet future Olympic standards.
The application was submitted to Sefton Council by Wroot Design on behalf of City Life Projects and would see 40,000 sq ft added to the eastern end of the existing building.
Four of the proposed new rooms would be specifically designed to increase the accessibility of the hotel. Six of the existing 97 car parking spaces would also be converted into EV charging points.
The padel centre, located to the rear of the 50-year-old hotel, will include changing rooms, a sauna and ice bath facilities as well as a café. A viewing area overlooking the courts has also been proposed, with access provided from the hotel.
The application states that the existing hotel will connect “seamlessly” to the new sporting facility and rooms via level access throughout.
The application has stated that works are not expected to impact the existing buildings at the hotel. Currently, the Park Hotel’s ground floor houses a public bar, function rooms, and a restaurant.
Overall, the hotel has multiple large-scale function and event spaces, with 62 bedrooms, The Grand National Bar and The Aintree Restaurant.
The Park Hotel is located on Dunnings Bridge Road and is a “modern business hotel” in a Tudor revival building.
