Hotel Wrexham occupancy sees double digit growth amid revamp

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

Hotel Wrexham has announced that its occupancy has seen double digit growth since it was acquired by hoteliers Steven Hesketh, owner of Savvy Hotel Group and Daniel Gillon, co-founder and managing director of Onyx Real Estate Liverpool in May 2024.

Since being acquired the hotel has undergone a major renovation focusing on the hotel’s 37 bedrooms, expected to be completed by the end of summer 2025.

By the end of 2025, Hotel Wrexham will introduce five newly renovated self-catering apartments including kitchens and washing facilities.

Alongside the room renovations, the hotel’s pub/restaurant, previously known as Rafters Hotel Restaurant, has undergone a dramatic transformation, thanks to a £350,000 investment.

As a result of this the brand new Savvy Fox gastropub has increased the hotel’s food and beverage revenue by 50%.

Since the takeover, the hotel has tripled its workforce, contributing to local employment and investing in training.

A commitment to supporting local businesses has resulted in collaborations with local tradespeople, artists, and businesses to enhance both the property and the surrounding area.

Hesketh said: “We are incredibly proud of the success we achieved in the last year. It was a year of growth, resilience, and positive change. Our guests’ continued trust and support have been the cornerstone of our achievements.

“As we look toward the future, we are more excited than ever to build on this momentum, elevate the experience we offer, and continue to create memorable moments for every guest who walks through our doors. Together with guests, local partners, and the community, we are building something extraordinary—one experience, one event, and one connection at a time.”
