The Grand, York has announced that it will undertake a significant £2.5m renovation of its spa and gym facilities.

From 1 May 2025, the spa will close for the transformation, with plans to reopen in early 2026 with state-of-the-art facilities and innovative wellness offerings.

The project will comprehensively redesign treatment rooms, introduce advanced wellness technologies, and expand relaxation spaces.

The renovation will see the existing spa’s design be transformed, introducing a brand-new
Tirol hot sauna, Himalayan salt sauna, a state-of-the-art large hydrotherapy pool, foot spas,
relaxation rooms and more.

The hotel will also add a restaurant area to its wellness facilities to offer spa day package holders a food and beverage offering.

During this refurbishment, The Grand, York will transform two bedrooms into treatment rooms. Other wellbeing offerings throughout the closure include in-room gym kits, Grand running routes and use of Grand bicycles enabling guests to explore the city.

Emma Sorby, spa director at The Grand, York, said: We are reimagining what a
luxury city centre spa can be, a holistic wellness sanctuary that connects guests with the
latest in relaxation and rejuvenation. By introducing a new variation of thermal offerings and
elevated experiences in the heart of York city centre.”

Adam Dyke, general manager at The Grand, York, added: “This transformation marks an exciting new chapter for The Grand, York, reaffirming our dedication to providing world-class luxury experiences. As we embark on this significant renovation to become the UK’s most loved city centre hotel spa, we are investing in the future of wellness hospitality, ensuring our guests have access to the very best in relaxation and rejuvenation.

“The new spa will not only enhance our offering but also set a new benchmark for urban wellness in the UK. We look forward to welcoming guests to a truly reimagined space that blends innovation, tranquillity, and indulgence in the heart of York.”
