Jeopardy Hospitality has reopened The General Tarleton, an 18th-Century coaching inn in Ferrensby, North Yorkshire, following a full refurbishment.

The relaunch marks the group’s first project, led by business partners Tommy Banks, Matthew Lockwood, James Banks and local entrepreneur Neil Armstrong, and sets out its ambition to restore and revive pubs across the UK.

Located near Harrogate and Knaresborough, the inn now offers eight bedrooms, a private dining room, an expansive bar and a terrace for outdoor dining.

General manager Sam Orbaum, formerly of the Woodhead Restaurant Group, oversees operations, while executive chef Aled Williams leads the kitchen. Williams’ background includes Northcote and TRUEfoods, along with appearances on BBC’s Great British Menu.

The menu blends pub classics with contemporary techniques, featuring dishes such as pork crackling with apple butter, smoked haddock chowder, roasted cod with cockle popcorn, and lamb shoulder with Yorkshire pecorino polenta. 

Meanwhile, pub staples include the GT Burger, steak and ale pie, and fish and chips, alongside a grill menu with Barnsley chop and Côte de Boeuf.

Sunday roasts feature salt-aged beef sirloin, Berkshire porchetta and a vegetarian lion’s mane mushroom dish from local supplier Wild Spore. Desserts include sticky toffee pudding, buttermilk panna cotta and a British cheeseboard from The Courtyard Dairy.

The wine list, curated by James Banks, spans 40 bottles from European classics to lesser-known regions, with English producers Wiston and Gusbourne also represented. More than 20 wines are available by the glass.

Jeopardy Hospitality said: “The reopening brings together historic character with modern British cooking and warm, genuine hospitality  while setting the template for future pub projects.”
