Shangri-La Hotel London appoints new general manager

Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London, has appointed Kurt Macher as its new general manager.


According to the hotel group, Macher has worked for some of the world’s leading hotel brands as general manager and within senior management roles including Wharf Hotels, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and The Peninsula Group.

He has also led “high performing” hotel teams in the US, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East and in some of the fastest growing markets across Asia, most notably in Hong Kong and Singapore.

During his time in China, he was an active board member of the British Chamber of Commerce in Southwest China and was also a finalist in the ‘General Manager of the Year’ category at the China Hotelier Awards in 2018.

Commenting on his appointment, Macher said: “With its notable achievements, it’s an exciting time to be joining Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London. The hotel has really gone from strength to strength as it celebrates its fifth birthday this year.

“It is not only becoming one of the most distinguished hotels internationally; with its location in the Shard, it is also becoming one of the most recognised. I very much look forward to building on this success with the team and driving even better results and improved guest engagement.”
