£65,000 worth of wine stolen from luxury hotel

A New Forest hotel suffered a robbery of great proportions over the weekend, as thieves escaped the property with over £65,000 worth of wine.

Lime Wood Hotel and Spa said that over 80 bottles of wine were stolen from its cellar in the early hours of Monday morning.

In a statement to Hotel Owner, a spokesman said: “On Monday 11th November at 3.38am there was a theft of high value wines from Lime Wood.

“The appropriate authorities have been alerted and a police investigation is underway. Approximately 80 bottles have been taken with a value of around £65,000.”

New Forest police said: “If you are offered any high quality wine at a bargain price or if you have any information about this theft please call 101 and quote the crime number 0190405894.”

The 33-room luxury retreat, set in the heart of New Forest National Park, forms part of the Lime Wood Group and Home Grown Hotels. It is the group’s flagship site, and first opened its doors in 2009.

The hotel’s wine list was awarded the Tattinger Wine List of the Year for 2015 and 2016, as well as an award for the ‘Most Innovative and Exciting Wine List’ at the Conde Nast Johansens Awards 2016 and 2017.
