Plans for a new hotel in the Compass House car park in Southampton has been approved by the council.
The plans, submitted by BHR Compass includes proposals for a 73-bedroom hotel which includes 35 parking spaces at Romsey Road, Southampton, the new hotel will create 19 jobs.
The scheme was set to be approved in October this year, but the decision was deferred amid civic chiefs asking for clarification on the amount of parking spaces. Earlier this year plans for a 101-bedroom hotel at the site was unveiled but was amended after concerns over the impact of the four storey hotel on the local area.
In an official document, planning bosses said: “An updated car parking survey has been produced which now suggests that there is available capacity for car parking on nearby roads.
“The survey was updated by extending the survey area to 500m walking distance and by discounting private roads including those on the adjacent estate constructed by Kier, Barrett Homes and Taylor Wimpey.”
The report also said: “It is not anticipated that significant overspill parking will frequently occur to a degree that will be harmful to the amenity of local residents.
“Overall the scheme is acceptable and the level of development proposed will not result in significant material impact on the amenities enjoyed by surrounding occupiers or the character and appearance of the area.”
