Harbour Hotels donates 250 two-night stays to NHS staff amid Covid crisis

Harbour Hotels has announced it is donating 250 complimentary two-night getaways to NHS staff amid the Covid-19 crisis.

The getaway, which includes dinner and breakfast at any of the hotel’s establishments across the south of England, is an initiative to express the hotel’s appreciation for the NHS staff.

Harbour Hotels said: “Whilst we have all been showing our gratitude to the NHS frontline staff for working tirelessly in the fight against the coronavirus with the weekly ‘#clapforcarers’, Harbour Hotels want to say their own special thank you.”

A social media driven initiative, followers are invited to nominate their NHS ICU hero, by tagging them in the comments and briefly explaining why they are being nominated.

Nominations close at 6pm, Friday 1 May 2020. With the 250 nominees being selected at random.

Nicolas Roach, chairman of Harbour Hotels, said: “Harbour Hotels follows the example already set by so many others large and small, by offering our appreciation of the commitment and sacrifice that frontline workers of the NHS have made on all our behalf.

“As a gesture of immense gratitude on behalf of all our staff and in our own small way, we want to say thank you by giving away 250 two night breaks to those who have worked in the 250 ICUs across the UK.”

The news comes as restaurant with rooms group The Pig pledged to offer free accommodation to frontline staff on opening night once the lockdown has been lifted, as part of the ‘#treatourNHS’ scheme.

‘#treatourNHS’ is a very recently started campaign where holiday letting companies are offering rooms to NHS workers after the Covid-19 crisis.

The group said as a gesture of “huge thanks” it would like to donate the night prior to its first night of its re-opening, “whenever that might be”, across each of its hotels to members of the NHS. The group has made 190 of its rooms available for caregivers to “put their feet up” and be “cared for” by the team.

The overnight stay will also compromise complementary breakfast and dinner.
