Second Courtyard by Marriott to open in Scotland

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Marriott International has announced plans to open a second Courtyard-branded hotel in Scotland

The 240-bedroom property in Edinburgh will join the Courtyard Aberdeen Airport Hotel, where Marriott’s new European design concept was launched last year.

The hotel will occupy Baxters Place – a listed building comprised of three adjoining Georgian townhouses, one of which was home to Robert Stevenson, a famous Scottish civil engineer and the grandfather of Robert Louis Stevenson, author of the 1881 novel ‘Treasure Island’.

The historic building has stood empty for many years, and a new building will be built behind its original façade. The hotel will have facilities including a bistro restaurant, fitness centre and a multi-functional meeting room.

Amy McPherson, president and managing director for Marriott International in Europe, said: “We are excited to announce the launch of Courtyard by Marriott Edinburgh and continue to expand the presence of the brand in Scotland. We’re proud to have developed an innovative hotel design that meets the needs of today’s traveller and to bring this offering to this vibrant and thriving city.”
