Gleneagles hotel is expected to go up for sale, after owner Diageo said it had received “numerous expressions of interest.”

The five-star resort in Perthshire, Scotland, which hosted the Ryder Cup in October last year, is rumoured to go on the market with a price tag of more than £200m.

Diageo, which has owned the 850-acre site since 1984, tried to sell the property in 1998 but offers failed to meet expectations, believed to be around £100m. It is believed to have tried to have sold the hotel again around six years ago.

According to reports, property firm Jones Lang LaSalle has been drafted in by Diageo to seek potential buyers, with US equity firm KSL Capital Partners reportedly interested.

A spokesperson for Diageo said: “Gleneagles is one of the UK’s finest luxury hotels and one of the world’s most fantastic golf resorts.

“We are sure there are many people who would love to own Gleneagles and have received numerous expressions of interest over the years and particularly since the Ryder Cup. As you would expect we have a duty to consider such interest carefully.”
