Last night TV personality Nick Hewer hosted ‘The Verdict 2015’ quiz – the first in a series of pub quizzes from hotel group Jurys Inn.
Hosted in The Prince of Wales Covent Garden, a traditional London pub, the ‘The Verdict’ is a series of pub quizzes which aims to test how well Britons know the cities in the UK.
The quiz comes after a recent poll from Jurys Inn found over three quarter of Britons are unable to locate well-known cities such as Sheffield (85%), Birmingham (83%) and Liverpool (76%) on a map.
The hotel group also found that 39% of Scots were unable to recognise the iconic St Andrews golf course, and a quarter (25%) of Londoners couldn’t name the Gherkin, when shown pictures of iconic landmarks.
Nick Hewer challenged the crowd on everything from UK landmarks, local famous faces to regional sayings, putting local knowledge to the test.
Nick Hewer said: “I was shocked to hear that more than three quarters of us are unable to locate well known UK cities on a map, so I was only too glad to join Jurys Inn for The Verdict. My general knowledge is pretty good but The Verdict even caught me out on a few questions.
“It was interesting to see the crowd stumble, especially when asked about localisms and knowledge of local landmarks; so it’s clear we all need to brush up on our UK knowledge.”
Suzanne Cannon, group marketing manager at Jurys Inn said: “We’re making it our mission to help Britain fall back in love with Blighty, as our findings showed locals aren’t necessarily aware of the amazing attractions they could be experiencing. We’re delighted the launch of The Verdict quiz has been such a huge success.”
