Britannia Hotels acquires two Hotel Collection hotels

Britannia Hotels has continued its expansion with the acquisitions of two Hotel Collection hotels, in a sale thought to total around £12.5m.

The purchase of the Basingstoke Country Hotel in Hampshire and the Grade II listed Palace Hotel in Buxton has increased the size of the company’s hotel and Pontins holiday parks portfolio to over 14,600 guest bedrooms, making the group the largest independent owner-operated hotel group in the UK and one of the largest in Europe.

The Palace Hotel in Buxton was on the market for £7m while the Basingstoke Country hotel was on the market for £5.5m with Christie & Co, but it is not known exactly how much was paid for the properties.

Alex Langsam, managing director of Britannia Hotels, said: “We are really delighted to have secured these hotels. Across our estate we have over 20 Grade II listed properties and we look forward to lavishing time and attention on The Palace Hotel to restore it to its true former glory.

“We have been able to grow our estate by trading very successfully during difficult times. Our highly experienced management team is aiming to make these two acquisitions equally successful.”
