Occupancy up marginally as revenue per available room (RevPAR) and room rates slump for London hotels during May, according to new preliminary figures released by STR Global.

Following a 4.1% increase in demand and a 3.3% increase in supply, hotels in the capital reported a 0.8% increase in occupancy compared with the same month last year.

London occupancy levels reached 85% with events such as the Sevens World Series and the RHS Chelsea Flower Show providing a ‘slight impact’.

The data also showed a 10.8% decrease in average daily rate to £125.91, while RevPAR fell by 10.1% to £107.04.
