Travelodge to recruit 750 new employees before the year end

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Budget hotel chain Travelodge has announced a ‘major’ summer recruitment drive with plans to open 10 new hotels by 2016.

The company said it will be seeking to recruit 750 new employees across the UK – including 250 new jobs as a direct result of the 10 new hotel openings – before the end of the year.

Job recruitment started yesterday and included positions such as hotel manager, assistant hotel manager, receptionist, housekeeper, guest room cleaner and bar cafe assistant roles, as well as roles in the company’s hotel support centre in Thame, Oxfordshire.

As a result, the company has launched a new careers website to support the recruitment drive which will include current vacancies as well as information about working at Travelodge, alongside video testimonials from existing staff members.

Peter Gowers, chief executive, said: “The hotel business is a place where you really can climb the career ladder and where your work can take you all over the world.

“Over the last few years at Travelodge we’ve helped more than 3,000 people get into work and more than 400 become hotel managers. The opportunities are out there. It’s all about getting that first foot on the ladder.”

The recruitment drive follows the company’s recent financial report for the first half of 2015, in which Travelodge reported a 17.9% surge in total revenue to £261m. The growth in revenue comes amid rumours of a potential £1bn sale or stock market float.
