Cigar room with a twist for May Fair Hotel

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

The May Fair Hotel has announced the opening of “The Cigar Room at The May Fair” this spring. Designed to be the “best cosy, outdoor smoking area in London”, the newly-created ‘cigar experience’ will offer the products from Hunters & Frankau including the Habanos, of which they are sole exporters, plus exclusive products on the smoking menu unique to the May Fair.

The hotel has also identified a growing demand for this traditionally male-dominated pastime from the aspirational female market and so will be looking to create a more ‘feminine experience’ through the use of cutting edge and stimulating design. Plans are in place for hanging gardens and striking chainmail-clad walls.

“With the Cigar Room we are creating somewhere our guests can feel relaxed and at ease while indulging in their passion for fine cigars,” commented Anthony Lee, general manager of the hotel. “When we launched, the May Fair transformed and made 5-star luxury inclusive. Now we will do something similar for cigar smoking; banishing the gentleman’s club atmosphere and catering for women, the stylish and successful and, of course, the more traditional cigar connoisseur.”
