Hotel calls for memorabilia for Newcastle Brown Ale anniversary tribute
Newcastle’s Sandman Signature Hotel is preparing to celebrate the 85th anniversary of one of the city’s most famous exports.
Located on the site of the former headquarters of the Scottish and Newcastle Brewery, the Sandman Signature Hotel plans to celebrate Newcastle Brown Ale’s 85th year in the making and is calling on anyone who owns memorabilia to get in touch.
Sandman Signature general manager Kevin Gilhooly explained: “The brewery played a big part in the history of the city and in the lives of a great many people, so we thought it would be nice to celebrate Brown Ale’s 85th birthday with a display of pictures and items connected with it.”
The hotel has previously paid tribute to its Scottish and Newcastle heritage since opening in October 2011. Former employees of the brewery were given a VIP tour following its refurbishment and its two conference rooms are named after the first chairman and MD of Scottish and Newcastle, Sir William McEwan Younger and inventor of Newcastle Brown Ale, Colonel J H Porter.
